Why Participate in Research?
Research participation is a choice
There are laws that protect participants from being coerced. You can stop participating in research at any time. You can and should always ask questions and read before signing anything.
Research allows your voice to be heard.
It informs others about your views and experiences on different topics, and what works and doesn’t work for you. When African Americans do not participate, their voices will not be heard.
Research is a great way to help others!
By participating in research you’re helping yourself, your community, and future generations. You can be the voice for those who can't speak up and empower others to speak up alongside you!
Research produces change
Research participants inform researchers who in turn inform treatment providers about how they can improve their mental health services.
