Who are we?
We are a group of UMass Boston-based faculty and students engaging in outreach, advocacy, and research in an effort to improve mental health and mental health treatment for Blacks in the US.

As researchers, we conduct studies to better understand the ways sociocultural factors like race, ethnicity, generational status, experiences of racism, and cultural values predict mental health outcomes for Blacks in the United States. We also are interested in more fully understanding and reducing mental illness stigma in the Black community, as well as gaining a more complete understanding of Blacks’ mental health treatment experiences in an effort to improve them.
