Black Mental Health Advocacy and Research Lab
Who are we?
We are a group of UMass Boston-based faculty and students engaging in outreach, advocacy, and research in an effort to improve mental health and mental health treatment for Black Americans.
PARTICIPATE IN OUR BARCS STUDY!
If you are Black and/or African American and over the age of 18, you are invited to participate in an online research study on resilience, coping, and stress. The study takes about 45 to 60 minutes to complete. Participants will have the opportunity to enter to win a $50 Visa gift card. Go to the link below to begin the Online Survey:
As researchers, we conduct studies to better understand the ways sociocultural factors like race, ethnicity, generational status, experiences of racism, and cultural values predict mental health outcomes for Black Americans. We also are interested in more fully understanding and reducing mental illness stigma in Black communities, as well as gaining a more complete understanding of Black Americans’ mental health treatment experiences in an effort to improve them.
